Beginning on March 3, 1991, four Los Angeles police, Stacy Koon, Ted Briseno, Lawrence Powell, and Timothy Wind, make the traffic stop of a car driven by Rodney King. When Rodney King stepped out of the car, the officer fired a 50,000 volt Taser gun electric arrows, similar to a stun gun, on Rodney King. After that, the police officers reportedly beat Rodney King with their sticks between 53-56 times. As a result of the beating, Rodney King suffered serious injuries, including broken bones. 

A private citizen recorded the beginning to the end of the incident on video and then sell it to a local television news station. Local news station, in turn, sold a copy to Ted Turner's Cable News Network, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. In the wake of the national broadcast repeated beatings, 4 officers involved in the incident faces charges of assault in state court in California.
Remarkably, in a state criminal court, the judge found the four officers not guilty of the charges. A large riot broke out in Los Angeles. In just a few hours of the announcement of the verdict, the people protesting in the streets and reportedly burned, looted, and terrorized the whole city. protest was regarded as a race riot, because of the fact that the King of African Americans and police officers who allegedly beat him all Caucasian. Popular belief that racially motivated beatings validated by the fact that transcripts of communications from the police car where the officer made several racial slurs both before and after the beating. 


In a civil trial in connection with the beating, the jury awarded Rodney King $ 3,800,000 in damage.Rodney King reportedly use some money to create a company recording.Rodney King also has stated that he wanted to be involved in helping young people to overcome the problem of racial minorities. 


Later, Stacy Koon and Lawrence Powell was charged in federal court for violating the civil rights of Rodney King during an arrest. In the Federal Guidelines Penalty, two officers facing 70-87 months in prison. Although the range of punishment, however, the United States District Judge John Davies to punish them for a term of 30 months. The judge sentenced him to choose to depart from the guidelines because the Rodney King refused to arrest and, thus, contributed to the beating. The judge also reduced the sentence based on the fact that the officer faces charges in connection with events in both state and federal courts.
