Jim Carrey was born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, and began performing in comedy clubs in Toronto at age 15. He moved to Los Angeles in 1981 and soon became a regular at the famous Comedy Store. Carrey began his career as a stand-up comedian and found success on television before breaking into the motion picture. her big break came after Rodney Dangerfield signed him during the season and an appearance on the David Letterman Late Night show.
